Sympathy for the brand
Even for brands there’s truth in the saying that everything is about simplicity. A successful sales promo radiates that!
Recently I filled up my gas tank at a BP station. The lady behind the counter said to my child: ‘You must be wearing a seatbelt!’ The answer was yes. To which the BP lady responded: ‘In that case I have something for you.’
Since then my daughter has a nice armadillo, proudly attached to the seatbelt. In Dutch, the words for armadillo and seatbelt are rather similar: ‘gordeldier’ (for armadillo) and ‘gordel’ (for seatbelt). (To give you an idea: change ‘armadillo’ to ‘belt animal’ in English.)
This name turned into the topic of the day. Because what can be a silly word game for adults can still be highly interesting for children. Does an armadillo really exist? Unbelievable.
In the midst of all those expensive sales promos and eternal soccer stickers, something like this is a relief. Simply making a gesture that has real value (helping children with traffic safety).
That’s ingratiating. That’s building a brand.
